I am not a Railroad guy but did come across a box of old railroad stuff and this Metal Plate was included in the lot...  It is very heavy...  about a quarter inch thick...  and it measures about 10 1/2 inches in diameter.


There are two posts coming out of the back that are a couple of inches long.  So, this was obviously mounted on something....  Possibly the train???   I don't know. But I'm sure that some of you train buffs out there will know exactly what this piece is all about.

It is very dirty...  We scraped some of the crud off of it on one spot and there is a very shiny gold color coming through...  Is it Brass?  I think so, but not 100% sure. I'm sure after you clean it up, it will be a neat piece.
