Ax men (or ax ladies)

This chain was used to fasten logs together in a raft to send to the sawmill. It came from Maine. I bought it to use the chain for a cannon carriage, but realized that it was too nice an artifact to cut up. The spike, ring, and chain links are entirely hand forged.

The entire length is 33 inches, and weighs nearly 5 pounds.
