| Opium: The Diary of an Addict by Jean Cocteau, translated by Ernest Boyd. London: Longmans, Green and Co. 1932, stated 1st edition. In 1918 Cocteau met the 15-year-old poet Raymond Radiguet. The two collaborated extensively, socialized, and undertook many journeys and vacations together. Cocteau got the youth exempted from military service and in admiration of Radiguet's great literary talent, Cocteau promoted his friend's works in his artistic circle. Radiguet died in 1923, aged just 20, of typhoid fever, which he contracted following an excursion with Cocteau, who was left stunned, despondent and prey to opium addiction. This is his story. 188 pages with 27 illustrations by Cocteau. Hardbound book in god to very good condition. Spine sun faded. Portion of dj glued to the inside of the front cover.
