This was our first attempt at a deeper mold and it didn't work out the way we had hoped, so I am auctioning it off. Our better optic mold is our part number 551010221 with much sharper edges than this one. But if you always wanted to try one at a reduced price, here is your shot. You may also find other creative uses with it.

• Graphite Dimensions,  2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" Long.
• Optic Mold has 18 points 1/4" Radius each approximately 1.5" Dia (largest opening) tapered 1 degree to a depth of approximately 3".   
• Sides are tapered to allow your glass to easily be removed

The "Optic Mold" concept was designed by Hillside Gardens Art Studio. This particular optic mold was a variation of our original optic molds suggested by Malcolm with ARTCO, designed and machined by Weaver Industries, Inc... Our machinists are encouraged to initial their work in a discrete nonfunctional area of the graphite, something we don't normally get to do in our regular custom machined parts.

Graphite is a unique material when used with glass; your glass will not stick to the graphite even when it gets hot. The walls of the optic mold are tapered to make sure there is no undercut to catch the glass. Graphite is also a great heat sink so when you are working with Borosilicate Glass you may want to preheat the mold before using it or the graphite will pull the heat from the glass too fast to pick up a nice pattern. This should not be an issue with soft glass.

Great for glass blowing, molds, and precious metals molds, etc. Graphite is easy to machine, but very dirty and abrasive to tools and machines. Graphite uniquely withstands great temperatures as well.
