Enc. cochleata

This wonderful plant has several common nicknames: cockle-shell orchid, clamshell orchid and octopus orchid. The flowers appear to be upside down. The long sepals and petals are green and twisted and the lip is a dark purple. Enc. cochleata will continue to flower sequentially for months and it is not uncommon for it to be in flower for 6 months or more. It is a medium size plant that can sit on a windowsill.

Enc. cochleata can be grown in the light and temperatures suitable for the common Cattleyas: cool to intermediate temperatures and high light.

This listing is for one Enc. Cochleata in a 3” pot. The photo shows the actual plant which is currently in bloom with another spike starting.
