Up for bid is this nice Oreodont upper. This upper is sheared, which typically occured when these animals were killed by carnivores such as sabertoothed cats. There were numerous sabertoothed cats found in the same area as this oreodont. Oreodonts were from the Oligocene era and this specimen is about 30 million years old. Sometimes called a prehistoric "ruminating hog" (although they were neither ruminants nor hogs), the typical oreodont was a sheep-sized, cud-chewing plant eater with a short face, tusk-like canine teeth, heavy body, long tail, short feet, and four-toed hooves. We have recently purchased a very large collection and we're selling some of the items we have duplicates of. This fossil was collected on a private ranch 20 miles northeast of Lusk, Wyoming in the White River Formation in what is known as the Chadron deposits. Feel free to call if you have questions or if there is anything you're looking for from this time (Oligocene) period. Probably have it or can get it - give me a call. (801) 717-6547
