plants indigenous to Great Britain. Illustrated by figures of the

natural size by the late William Curtis, author of the Botanical Magazine.

A New Edition, enlarged by

George Graves and William Jackson Hooker.

Size / Format
  • Folio. Each sheet measures 19¼" x 12½"  (49.0 cm x 31.5 cm).
  • Printed on Heavy wove creamy white paper, some sheets of which bear the watermark "W. Balston & Co. 1815.
  • The plate impressions are strong. They vary in size from print to print.
  • The original text page, in Latin and English, accompanies each print, and it is an impressive document itself. The text was written by William Hooker.
  • All the sheets are untrimmed and retain evidence of their having been bound together, as pictured below:

 

Note that the surface of my scanner is 11" x 17", so I was able to capture the images in their entirety with one scan by leaving out the last inch of the page edges. Rest assured that they are clean and untrimmed, as pictured above.

Condition Excellent. The paper is exceptionally good quality. The prints are bright and clean, with the very occasional very small spot.  The scanned images below are reliable. They are of the actual print you will receive and they have not been altered  or enhanced in any way (aside from doubling the size in the close ups). Note that I scanned the images without removing the prints from their protective acid-free clear bags and in a few close-up scans what looks like a small spot on the print is actually a fleck of dust on the surface of the bag.
Remarks Prints from Flora Londinensis (either edition) are quite scarce. Only a few hundred of each edition were initially published. Hand coloring dates from the time of publication.
