The dogwood tree in the painting is right off of my yard, into the wooded area and the Cardinals have built a nest in a cypress tree that is in the front side corner of my yard, so they are always out there, flying past where I sit back and forth to feed the babies. Well, she does all the work, he sort of hangs out and follows her around. Anyhow, I was taking photos of the dogwood and the few flowers it produced this year and I was thinking that a painting of the Cardinals in the dogwood would be really nice. I was going to put them there. I swear, the birds weren't even around when I started taking photos and then poof, they both came right over. The male got into the tree and started posing while the female looked for food on the ground. Every time the camera clicked, he would cock his head to listen.
