Original Vintage 1930's Batik (29" x 37") by Doris Martha Weber (1898-1984} The Subject Matter of this Batik is what Miss Weber always called {Her} Fantasy. It is a Mermaid playing with a fish. We will never know what story Miss Weber would have put with this Batik, as Miss Weber is no longer with us. This Batick is part of Miss Weber's Estate. It was done by Miss Weber in the Wax Method. She covered with wax the colors she wanted to protect from the next Round of Dyeing. To my knowlege Miss Weber only made three Batiks. Miss Weber's Batiks were entered in the May Show of the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio in 1936.1943,46,47 and 49. She was Awarded an Honorable Mention at one time. She is listed there in the Archives. She was a Graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art. Miss Weber is an Internationally known Photographer with her Photographs in Smithsonian Archives. She is also in the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame. I am including two copies of the covers of Sotheby's Catalogues where her photographs were auctioned, also a copy of a Photographic Portrait of her. I will also include other Biographical Provenance such as Newspaper Articles and other information.
