| | | | | This is the trumpet my parents bought new for me from Lyons Band Instrument Company, Chicago IL in 1959. The exact date of manufacture I am not sure of. I played this horn in grade school, middle school, and through Freshman year of HS. I then stored it away for 35 years before taking it up again about 10 years ago. Fortunately for Arturo, life got in the way and I was never able to play it enough to blow him off his throne. Yeah right! Anyway, this horn is a tight player with all tuning slides and valves fitting snug, water keys working perfecly and still has fast valve action. As a kid I had a nervous habit of chewing on the brass tubes, hence numerous small dings. I tried to depict the biggest dings with pics, but there may be others that did not visualize well. I would be happy to send you more pics if you wish. None-the-less, these blemishes in no way detract from the sound or performance of this horn. My last instructor advised me not to have this horn refinished but to keep it in its original condition, which is what I have done. The case is in nice 50 year old condition with all latches working and when you open it still has the evervescence it did the day I got it. I loved that smell then, I love it still and I love this horn. I never thought I would be budgeting at this point in my life, but like many others, I am, and need to sell lots of things I never considered selling before, this horn being one of them. If you are looking for a nice original owner Martin Committee in its original leather case with its original lyre and mouthpiece, then hopefully you will get this trumpet. Happy bidding. On Nov-11-09 at 13:11:09 PST, seller added the following information:The bore size as best determined using a hand vernier caliper and measuring the inside diameter of the 2nd valve slide is .44". This information supercedes anything written prior to 11/11/09 in response to questions asked, as a couple of erroneous measurements were un-intentionally taken. From best estimates based on the serial number chart listed on: http://www.dallasmusic.org/gearhead/Martin%20Committee.html
this horn was manufactured in 1956 or so, not in 1959 (purchase date). Because of the bracing on the 3rd valve slide and traditional placement of the water keys on this horn, it is quite possible this horn is special Magna Committee model made without the copper bell. The article sited above makes reference to a limited run of these special Magna models but I do not know for sure if my horn is one of them and want to make that very clear to all bidders. I have only been able to dig-up sketchy backround information on the Martin Committee trumpets to date. If you need more pics I can send them to your email, but am unable to list more pics. Once again, this horn is in its original condition with no replacement parts or modifications of any kind being done to this horn through the years! |
