Mit diesem Endergebnis beendete David Coulthard beim Grand Prix von Brasilien 2008 in Sao Paolo seine großartige Formel-1-Kariere.
In Sao Paolo ging nicht nur die Formel-1-Saison zu Ende, sondern auch eine Ära. David Coulthard zieht sich nach nicht weniger als 15 Jahren Formel-1-Zirkus aus der aktiven Rennfahrer-Karriere zurück.

Den Beginn von Davids Formel-1-Karriere markierte der schwärzeste Tag der Formel-1-Geschichte: Einen Monat nach dem tödlichen Unfall von Ayrton Senna, am 29. Mai 1994, übernahm David Coulthard beim Grand Prix in Barcelona als 23-Jähriger das Williams-Cockpit. Ein Jahr später feierte er in Estoril seinen ersten Formel-1-Sieg. 1996 wechselte der aufstrebende Schotte zu McLaren, um dort seine größten Erfolge zu feiern. Mit McLaren gewann David Coulthard zwölf Formel-1-Rennen, wurde 2001 Vize-Weltmeister und drei Mal Dritter in der Gesamtwertung. 1998 führte er gemeinsam mit Mika Häkkinen McLaren auch zum bisher letzten Konstrukteurs-Titel.

Das neu gegründete Red Bull Racing-Team war für David Coulthard die Chance für einen Neustart. Gleich von Beginn an sammelte der Schotte konstant Punkte. Beim Grand Prix in Monaco 2006 überraschte er einen Großteil seiner Konkurrenten mit einer Ein-Stopp-Strategie und wurde dafür mit dem ersten Podestplatz für Red Bull Racing belohnt.

At the GP of Brazil in 2008, Sao Paolo, David Coulthard finished his terrific formula one career -
that moment, not only the formula one season ended, but an era as well. David Coulthard retired from his active career after not less than 15 years in the formula one circus.

The beginning of David Coulthard’s career marks the blackest day in formula one history: One month after the fatal crash of Ayrton Senna on 29th May 1994, the 23-years old David Coulthard took his seat in the Williams cockpit. Only one year later, he celebrated his first formula one victory in Estoril. In 1996, David changed to McLaren and celebrated his biggest victories: David Coulthard won 12 races, in 2001 he finished third in the world championship and was three times in the overall standing. In 1998, David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen lead Mclaren to the designer engineering title.

The newly founded Red Bull Racing-Team was the chance for David’s re-start. From the very beginning, the Scottish pilot was collecting points for his formula one team and at the race in Monaca he surprised with his one-stop-strategy and was rewarded with the first podium place for the Red Bull Racing Team.
