Note: These are the lines of text in the slides. Steatite Ottoman Calligraphic Seal (a) Cream colored steatite, hand engraved seal suitable for setting into a ring, Dated (1)137AH/1724AD, Ottoman, Turkey. This not the modern acid etched type. The oval flat surface has beautiful Islamic calligraphy and floral scrollwork masterfully hand engraved. II. Steatite Ottoman Calligraphic Seal 1. The image on the right has been flipped, to make the inscription read properly. As was common practice, the date on the bottom omits the initial numeral 1 (thousand). It reads “ ” meaning or 1137 AH in the Islamic callendar, which converts to 1724 AD. 2. Thanks to very kind ebayers the following in formation was provided: "...PERSONAL SEAL WAS USED AS SIGNATURE IN THE PAST, AND IT'S WRITTEN NAME: Jahangir Almosawi. Not sure with the first name but it's same like you write (Jahagir in Arabic or Persian)..."...(alternate spelling: Jahangir Al Mosawi)...and..."..."It's (calligraphy) done in Nasta'liq (script) with floral designs of the period..." 3. III. Steatite Ottoman Calligraphic Seal 1. There is crackling all over, otherwise in good condition. Ideal for mounting into a ring or pendant. IV. Steatite Ottoman Calligraphic Seal 1.
