PAIR ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ICONS 1878 WEDDING GIFT SIGNED

                 PAIR OF ICONS 130 years old

                         HAND PAINTED

                       STERLING COVER

  • This is a Wedding set.
  • They were  given as a wedding gift for the couples home alter.
  • The painting is oil on wood.
  • They originally came in a case or Kyot with a glass cover but that is missing.
  • The two icons of Jesus Christ and the Holy Virgin of Vladimir together formed a wedding pair.
  • The marks of silver is clear that the oklad and icons were crafted in Moscow in the second half of the 19th century.
  • Both are in need of Restoration some one who knows how to clean the paintings and repair the silver covers. some of the sterling pins that hold the silver to the wood  are missing.
  • They are 4 1/4 by 5 1/4 inches.
  • The mark on one is AK 1878 84 M8 and there is one mark next to the 84  I can not make out.
  •  The mark on Mary and the Child  is  AK 1878 84  M8 and the small mark next to 84  is clear you can make it out  but I  believe it is Russian mark.
  • My Grandfather brought them back from Russia in 1890  I guess as a Wedding gift for my Grandmother.  They have been in our family for 118 years.
