On offer is a wonderful paua shell (abalone, mother of pearl) coaster. It measures 8.5cm in diameter and consists of hundreds of pieces of paua shell. The base is cork.

This was originally on display in a shell museum. Only one was ever found and it was an overflow from a special order of a custom made dining set made in New Zealand for a very wealthy client. Usually paua shell is too expensive to use on coasters.
