PEGASUS in SKY,Horse,Beach,Sunset,Malibu,LUCK Painting

One special day in the summer of 2009 I sat at a beach in Malibu California gazing at the most beautiful sunset with brilliant colors of ORANGE,RED,PINK and YELLOW GOLDS and as the sun had started to dip into the horizon on this special beach day I had witnessed this Pegasus forming in the clouds in the sky. So I drove home as fast I could capturing all the colors of the day including how the reflections of light even gave the ocean a purple blue and gold reflective light hues.  So as the gentle waves rolled in from the Pacific I created on this oak wood panel this painting I titled " Pegasus in the Sky "

 

You will notice the spirit of the winged horse and as you divide the painting up you see the different moods of the ocean captured as you leave the sun setting. Many faces come out in the clouds which include ancient indian masks and what appears to be the happy moon.

 

HISTORY OF PEGASUS

 

In Greek mythology, Pegasus ( Greek : Πήγασος, Pégasos, 'strong') was a winged horse sired by Poseidon.

The poet  Hesiod connects the name Pegasus with the word for "spring, well", pēgē; however, the name's origins may come from words in the Luwian language : pihassas, meaning "lightning"; or from Pihassasas, the name of an ancient weather god meaning "god of lightning".

Hesiod relates one story of how Pegasus was peacefully drinking from a well when the hero Bellerophon captured him. Everywhere the winged horse struck his hoof to the earth, an inspiring spring burst forth. One of these springs was upon the Muses ' Mounth Helicon, the Hippocrene (" horse spring "), at the behest of Poseidon to prevent the mountain swelling too much and another at Troezen. Hesiod also says Pegasus carried thunderbolts for Zeus.

FINAL COMMENTS: As you look closely at this painting you will see areas where I let the natural untouched wood grain in the oakso it reflects through the paint so you see natural sand bars and images of the bottom of the sea through the water.
