About the Authors
Dr Charles Clarke is a biologist who has been studying the ecology of Nepenthes pitcher plants since 1988. He was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, where he received an honours degree in Botany (Monash) and a Ph.D. in Ecosystem Management (UNE). After working in Southest Asia for much of the last decade, he moved to Cairns (Australia) in 2003. He is now an adjunct member of the School of Tropical Biology at James Cook University and is presently studying the Nepenthes of Cape York Peninsular.

Ch'ien Lee holds a B.Sc. in Biology/Ecology from the University of California Santa Cruz, where his intense fascination with Nepenthes began when he took a position caring for the carnivorous plant collection there. He has worked as a naturalist in California parks, doing public education on his favourite topics including ethnobotany, entomology, and mammal tracking. In 1996 he moved to Sarawak where he spearheaded a Nepenthes propagation programme, including a tissue culture laboratory, at Malesiana Tropicals. Ch'ien has travelled widely in Southeast Asia, doing nature photography and continuing his field studies of Nepenthes. he is currently a consultant with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation in Kuching, Malaysia.
