Adapter to fit Prakticar (Praktica) bayonet mount lens or accessories to Canon EOS (D)SLR Camera Body

This brand new adapter will allow you to use Prakticar B mount lenses and macro accessories on Canon EOS cameras.
Lens lock prevents accidental release of the lens from the adapter (depress the lever to unlock from the lens if required).

The adapter presses the mechanical AF switch found on some film cameras and 1D which may cause electronic lock up of these cameras. If you have this switch then you should consider purchasing the AF Confirm version of this adapter that I have listed.

The adapter will not quite focus to infinity Some other sellers say that they "Guarantee infinity focus". I bought one from CamPlus and found that it is exactly the same item as mine.
To get infinity focus the adapter should be 0.40mm thick however it would bend easily in normal use. It would also be difficult to manufacture as it could break up while it is being cut. According to my micrometer, the CamPlus and my PB adapter are exactly 0.65mm thick. A longer focal length lens (100mm+) will focus to one kilometre or more. It is more noticeable on shorter focal length lenses at wide aperture. You can work around it by using smaller apertures which will increase the depth of field.

Lenses that will not work with full format film and digital cameras (e.g. 1D and 5D): Before mounting any lens to full format film or digital cameras you should check that no part of the lens protrudes behind the adapter bayonet else it may contact the camera reflex mirror causing lock up and possibly damage.

The reflex mirror of film cameras and full format Digital (1d and 5d) is likely to hit the protruding guard of the aperture lever of the PB lens and the thin ring around the rear element.  If you want to use a PB lens on a full format (35mm) camera the only solution is to trim a few millimetres off the guard and ring (in most cases a craft knife can be used) so that it does not extend behind the adapter. The lever can be left intact (on most lenses) or trimmed as you wish.

All lenses should be okay to use with 22mm imaging chip Canon cameras (10d through to 1000d) owing to the smaller reflex mirror size.

If you find PB mount lenses which will not mount safely on the EOS adapters, let me know and I will add to this description.
Waffle
Old mechanical lenses generally have optics every bit as good as their modern equivalents so grab a bargain on eBay then get one of my adapters to use it on your Canon EF mount camera. Manually set the lens aperture as required. Use large apertures for low light or when you want a defocussed background e.g. for a portrait shot. Use small apertures in bright light or if you want a longer exposure for instance to blur an aircraft propeller or the background of a fast moving racing car. Use the camera's Av mode for automatic exposure. You will need to set focus by hand. This takes a little practice as the modern viewfinders are not so easy to judge as the old split focus type. Using smaller apertures considerably increases your margin for error. For reliable pin-sharp focus select an AF Confirm adapter which will activate the focus lights in your viewfinder.
