PRETTY RAINBOW IRIDESCENT AMMOLITE AMMONITE FOSSIL

NICE BRIGHT COLORS!

This is an ammonite fossil with beautiful bright  green, yellow and pink ammolite on the fossilized mother of pearl shell. There is more color on this than the photos show.

What is Ammolite?

Fossil ammonite
Desmoceras latidorsatum
, 100 million years old (Late Cretaceous Period) Ammonites are extinct mollusks related to the modern squid, octopus and Chambered Nautilus. Under certain conditions related to fossilization, the nacreous shell becomes highly iridescent; the resulting gemlike material is called "ammolite."

American Museum of Natural History 46866

It is considered the rarest gem on earth.

Measurements: 1  1/2" or 38 mm accross the shell.  This weighs 20.2 grams.

         THE PHOTOS ARE TAKEN INDOORS

   Geologic Age: MESOZOIC

  • Stratigraphic detail: LOWER ALBIAN
  • Location:  MADAGASCAR

Fantastic as a collector's specimen! It is 100 million years old! A STUNNING FIREY OPAL FOSSIL AND A PIECE OF ANCIENT HISTORY.

In ancient Egypt, ammonites were seen as a symbol of any ancient deity who was associated with the ram and its curved horns. In Ethiopia, they were considered sacred stones, and were worn to gain prophetic dreams. They were also believed to grant the wearer deep meditations. In England today, as in ancient history, the ammonite is considered to be a stone that grants miracles. This belief came about in 656 C.E. when St. Hilda supposedly prayed for the people's protection of the snake infested River Esk. It is said that the snakes coiled up and rolled off the cliffs, and then instantly turned to stone.

Ammonites have been a symbol of good luck and prosperity in the Far East for decades. They are a symbol of abundance and are believed to attract and store wealth and prosperity. They also enhance clarity and promote cooperation along with encouraging wisdom in decision making.

The ancient Greeks used ammonites to cure infertility, blindness, and snakebite. People in India, in the 5th century, believed that drinking water poured over ammonites would erase their sins. Both the Scots and the English believed that ammonites could cure snakebite.
