PRINT TEXAS HILL CO. BLUEBONNET LONGHORN WANDA JOHNSON

BY WANDA JOHNSON=SIGN & # PRINT'S, THE ORGINAL PAINTING WAS DONE NORTH OF KERRVILLE, TEXAS.  THIS PRINT IS 15 BY 19 INCHES, THIS IS A TEXAS LONGHORN IN A TEXAS BLUEBONNET FIELD, THIS IS A GREAT PRINT

Wanda is a native Texan who grew up along the South Texas coast. She began painting as a teenager after her grandfather found a set of oil paints on a beach and presented them to her.

She started experimenting with the paints using her allowance and baby sitting money to buy canvas panels, brushes, more paint and "how to" books and began developing her own technique in the process. In 1975 she enrolled in some evening business courses being offered at the high school through the local community college. The courses she signed up for were canceled due to low enrollment. The only class that was offered was an art class taught by Palacios artist (at the time) David Drinkard. He told her there were few women western artists and encouraged her to paint something western. Her first painting, under Mr. Drinkard's tutelage, was of 3 Native Americans (Indians) on horseback in a canyon. Mr. Drinkard took the painting to a gallery in Austin, Texas that he was dealing with where it sold. This was her first painting sold in a gallery. Mr. Drinkard offered tips and tons of encouragement throughout the next few years.

Mrs. Johnson's realistic creations depict western & nostalgic scenes, landscapes and the beauty of God's nature. She spends many hours on each canvas creation & every detail is applied with the finest brush strokes to give her paintings the fine clarity and sharpness that establish her among the finest of America's frontier artists. Wanda Johnson oils are in many private collections as well as on display in galleries throughout the United States and abroad. She excels in her painting of cattle and has been cover artist for various cattle magazines. She enjoys traveling at every opportunity, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren
