Rare Very Unusual Political Narrative, very nearly Science-Fictional, calling for an overhaul of the Constitution. The Banking and Insurance system is to be run by the Postal System. It takes place on Mars inhabited by fair-skinned Christians but is obviously about the United States. Maus has ideas for the Financial/Monetary System and the Gold Standard, the Judicial and Criminal System, everything.  I'm curious to read it and add here more of what I can. Much of it is written almost in legalese and at other times feels to be shouted from a pulpit. It seems to foreshadow the Great Depression and to some degree Nazism in its references to race loyalty. Many of the ideas have things state-run. Maybe it is somewhat related to National-Socialism. I could not say to what the "Nationalism" put forth in this book is relative. Written before the US entered World War I. Hands-down one of the oddest book I've ever seen.


ITEM DESCRIPTION: PROGRESS by GRANT MAUS - 1917 SIGNED FIRST EDITION HARDBACK. Printed by The Nationalist Weekly Press, Oklahoma City, Okla. - Good Condition - See Scans. 1917 Signed First Edition Hardbound - A Very Scarce Book - Signed with a salutation to a friend "C. L. Daugherty". Red Cloth Covers with Gold Lettering has a mottled loss of color but the cover is not really worn. The Art Nouveau Gold Design on the front is not worn but appears tarnished in places. There is minimal corner and edge wear, corners are not dinged. No Dust Jacket. Pages are clean and crisp with subtle yellowing to edges. Binding is tight. There is an old partially removed price sticker on the top corner of the front fly page. There is a small stain that goes through the 2 fly pages and title page (visible in scan). Included is a paper insert that appeals for people to join the "Nationalist Party". I deal in finer unusual books in the very best clean condition. Books are mailed in a custom-made box. Shipping is very fast - Priority with Insurance Included.  Closed book is 8" x 5.66" x 1"

CONDITION: Scans show in order; Mottled Cover, title page and tipped-in Errata, Publishing statement and date, stain through 3 pages, salutation to friend and signature, Forward with tiny tears at bottom, Preface, "America" with a verse by Smith, the first two pages of Chapter One and an insert appeal to join the "Nationalist Party".



Items are packaged securely and well protected in a custom-made cardboard box, not an envelope.
