Lovely examination of early Puerto Rico is shown to tourists (?) features it's economy, (everything from coal to coffee) it's political climate (note the USA in front of Puerto Rico) and it's most famous sport, Cock Fighting! No fights are shown :( and I have no idea if it's still going on, but the meer tease of it made me salivate.

.Being born and raised in the island, I can always appreciate and admire how the island`s landmarks looked before I was born (1963).The views and the landscape is more clean and less cluttered.

This 40s film, made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Extension Service, chronicles the services the Extension Service provides to rural Puerto Rican families, including training in better farming methods, help with starting home-based businesses, and starting 4-H clubs for the kids. It’s pretty straightforward, though the emphasis on “American” values seen in a Hispanic culture is a little bit unusual in spots. Mostly, though, this is just what you’d expect. It does give a historically interesting glimpse into rural life in Puerto Rico

For those of us born and raised there, the film offers an amazing view of yesterday`s life in rural Puerto Rico,otherwise learned of in books.Being born there in 1963, and raised in the city, I can only marvel at how the "jibaros" (country folks)lived a lifestyle with no modern comforts.

A nice overview of Puerto Rico, and it's many industries, which includes farming (lots of it), fishing and handcrafts. Most fasicating are the shots of a girl handweaving a blanket or whatever, and her expertise in handling 6 spindles at once. The music is great too, all spanish old style.
