UKRAINIAN PYSANKY EGGS. CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT. GIFTS FOR ANY CELEBRATION. UKRAINIAN EASTER EGGS

COMBINE YOUR AUCTION PURCHASES. FREE SHIPPING OVER $ 50.

This auction is for one real (not a wooden) blown chicken egg with coordinated string (on top of egg) and tassel (on bottom).

This egg comes from Kosiv, a picturesque little town in Hutsulshchyna (western Ukraine) — the land of the Ukrainian Carpathians mountains. The town is over 500 years old and is a district seat of the Ivano-Frankivsk Region in Ukraine. Kosiv is famous for its outstanding artists who not only create beautiful objects, but also keep national traditions, such as hand decorating Pysanka eggs, alive. I work with artists, mainly women, around the world to increase their income to better their lives and the life of their family.

This pysanka egg was handmade following the traditional dye and wax method. Pysanka is derived from the Ukrainian verb pysaty, which means “to write”. The designs are written or drawn on the egg with melted beeswax, which flows from a writing instrument known as a kystka. The writing is done on successively different colored backgrounds. These backgrounds are produced by dipping the egg in a series of dyebaths, progressing from the lightest to the darkest color. A beautiful and intricate pattern is revealed when the wax layers are removed. The more intricate the design and the more colors an egg has, the longer it takes to make it.

This egg , WITHOUT STAND, is offered at a minimum bid of $8.50 and $2.75 for first class postal shipping and handling. The egg will be shipped with an explanation of  Pysanky designs and colors. The shipping costs include postage, delivery confirmation fee, costs of the peanuts and boxes. I combine shipping and handling charges if you purchase several eggs. I ship next business day if payment is by Paypal.

In the Ukraine, a pysanka egg can be given at Easter but also at any joyful occasion during the year. It can also be used as Christmas ornaments to decorate the tree. One would choose an egg with symbols and colors that are appropriate for the occasion.

From ancient times, Ukrainians believe that the pysanka egg is a symbol of eternal life and good health. In many cultures, the egg is considered a symbol of all life.

The designs and the colors on the egg have a meaning in the Pysanky art. For example, a cross symbolizes Christian Faith, worship; flowers symbolize wisdom, beauty and elegance; leaves denote immortality and eternal love; wheat predicts a generous harvest; a stag and a ram represent leadership and strength; a horse symbolizes wealth, endurance; the hen is a symbol of fertility; fishes represent abundance and a star is the symbol for beauty, elegance, perfection, the star rose or eight pointed star stands for Christ.

The primary colors are red, yellow, orange, black and white. Brown, green, blue and purple are used mostly as accent colors. Black is eternity; white is innocence, purity; red is passion, joy, the heart; yellow is for the life-giving sun; orange combines the warmth of the sun with the warmth of the heart; brown and green are the colors of the earth and spring; blue is good health and purple is faith and trust.

I have plenty of more eggs in auctions, in my ebay store under seller's name e-maginativegifts and on my Website under seller's name e-maginativegifts.  Thank you for visiting my sites. There are different eggs on my Website compared to my ebay auctions and ebay store.  Have a nice day!
