Great pair of vintage French doors
salvaged from Southwestern New Jersey. The doors are made of solid heart
pine, and have 30 tempered glass lites and all of the necessary hardware.
We found the doors in excellent condition; the finish, the glass, and
hardware were all intact. The wood has some small, surface scrapes and
scratches, but nothing in need of repair. All we did was oil the wood to
restore moisture to it, and clean the glass. The original glass was replaced at some point with
tempered glass. Whoever replaced the glass went overboard on the silicon,
and as a result, each lite had a thick lining of dried silicon along its
edges, on both front and back sides. It took a couple of hours, but we were
able to scrape it off.
The door is equipped with 4 levers, 2 of which are dummies, 4 hinges, 1
mortise lock with keeper, 1 slide lock, and 1 flush bolt. The hardware is
all brass plated steel and operates very well.
The doors were cut at
some point to reduce their height. They were cut unevenly, most likely to
accommodate an old, warping floor. This is easily corrected and both doors
could be recut to an even 78.75" H, or we could add to increase their height--see
"Additional Services" below.
A thick, heavy pair of French doors with tempered glass and hardware, in
this condition, for this price is very rare! We got them for a good price
and, now, we confer the savings onto you.
