Designed for Pan Am by Noritake Philippines, this meal dish represents an iconic but now gone airline Pan Am. Item is in every good condition and measures approximately 5” in diameter with a 2” depth and has a gold ring that is still in excellent condition. Founded in 1927, it was the pioneer carrier to Hawaii, using flying boats, later Boeing 377’s, Douglas DC-7’s and then, becoming one of the first domestic carriers to serve Hawaii with Boeing 707’s, which cut the flying time to Hawaii in half from the west coast to under 5 hours. But because of the airline deregulation, Pan Am soon became a victim of it and was gone in 1991. But one might argue that while the Boeing 707 took Pan Am to new heights, the Boeing 747 when introduced in 1970 might have signaled its downfall due to the debt that Pan Am had to incur to get them. But for now, a great item to look back at the iconic Pan American Airways.
