The exquisite Panerai watch brand was founded in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai on the Ponte alle Grazie. The Panerai name quickly became so renowned for its precision movement that it became the official watch-maker for the Royal Italian Navy. Always a leader in design, the manufacture’s innovative use of large watch faces led to a broader industry movement that embraced the idea that bigger is often better. The Panerai watch brand is considered such an embodiment of luxury that it recently replaced Girard-Perregaux as the official Ferrari timekeeper. Panerai timepieces remain one of the most difficult to obtain brands in the world, with waiting lists that can span several years.
The dial is black with the Ferrari Prancing Horse logo at 12 o’clock, with White Luminous Painted Arabic Numerals, a 60-minute scale, a Small Continuous Seconds Subdial at 9 o’clock with applied cone-section ring in metal and a Yellow Hand, a Seconds Hand and part of the Seconds Scale in Yellow, and a Date Display Window at 3 o’clock inside a cone-shaped ring in metal. Luminous White Baton Hour and Minute Hands at center. The dial has a 24-hour indication in white on the flange as well as a center Second Time Zone Hand with Yellow Arrow Point. The watch is protected by a Sapphire crystal, made from corundum, which is 1.9 mm thick and has anti-reflective coating. Water Resistant to 100 meters. It comes on a Black Leather Strap with contrasting white stitching, lined in Yellow Leather with yellow stitching. The inside of the strap is also stamped Ferrari and is further personalized with an adjustable Ferrari deployment buckle in brushed steel with the edge of the closure in polished steel. The watch is supplied with a steel screwdriver and a second interchangeable strap in rubber with the Ferrari inscription. An amazing piece!!
The case is an impressive (and massive) size, measuring 45 mm in diameter, in brushed Stainless Steel and accented with a brushed Stainless Steel bezel, and a winding crown with the Ferrari logo. The caseback is Stainless Steel as well, screw-in, also engraved with the infamous Ferrari Prancing Horse and a geometric pattern decoration. The round the edge of the caseback is engraved with the inscription - Engineered by OFFICINE PANERAI.
Personal Note--All I can say is that it just doesn't get much better than a collaboration between these two incredible companies, Panerai and Ferrari. Each one is a hallmark of exceptional quality and is at the top of their respective fields. And the watches they have done together reflect the best of everything each one represents. The design, colors, workmanship, durability and functionality are second to none. I love this GMT. It is a perfect watch for travel, and also can be worn as an everyday piece.The dial design bears a heavy resemblance to the details of the Ferrari instrument panel. Sporty with a feeling of speed!
