PANGERLI
These are tribal pieces woven by the Turkman tribes of northern Afghanistan. They are woven by the women of the tribe and are mainly for their own domestic use. They use these items for the decoration of the YURT (tent). They are very decorative items. In the East they use them as wall hangings and some even hang them over the windows, that is why they are better known as Pangerlic.
Turkmen And Other Nomadic Bags
Despite the common factors of a simple loom-type, wool yarn and dyes, the weaving of the Turkoman tribes, the Shahsavan, the Uzbek, Kirghiz, Kazakh, Belouch and other tent dwellers of central Asia and Persia, are astonishingly divers in their structures, colouring and decorative patterns, even when fulfilling similar functions. Lacking vegetable fibres such as wood to make baskets and furniture, nomads turn to woven bags to store and transport their possessions. The number and quality of the bags to store clothing, bedding, domestic items and hunting equipment that hangs from the lattice of the tent judge the wealth and status of a family. Various shapes of bag and types of fastening have developed for specific uses. The precious commodity, salt, is carried in the Namakdan (salt bag), a distinctive small square bag with a long narrow neck which folds over to prevent spillage. These bags are certainly a conversation piece in any household.
There is nothing more guaranteed to add a touch of warmth and luxury to your home than an oriental carpet.
These treasures from the East can transform your home or your office in an instant, bringing it drama, colour and ambience of cosiness, regardless of whether you live in a spacious loft, a flat, a normal house or a country mansion. In your office, an oriental carpet is impressive yet welcoming. At a stroke you can put your own personal stamp on your work place or corporate environment, which will not go, unnoticed by your colleagues or clients.
