Party Frocks Little Dresses Dimensional Quilt Pattern

This quilt is easy to make! The little straps are paper pieced (you'll need some paper piecing experience, or search online and there are plenty of free directions available). The 'dresses' are two rectangles sewn right sides together on three sides, then turned and slightly gathered. You catch the dress in the seam when you sew the top to the bottom of the block.

There is so much you can do to personalize this quilt - make the dresses from a little girl's baby clothes or vintage hankies. Add buttons or bows. And you must put something 'underneath' to add an element of surprise, since everyone who sees this quilt feels compelled to lift up the dresses :-) The quilt as shown is 48" x 48", but you can make just three blocks vertically and this makes a great size for hanging in smaller places, like on a door.

I have been designing quilt patterns since 2002. My designs are characterized by ease of construction, the use of large pieces of fabric, and the use of a large-scale fabric. My trademark design element is the diagonal line, which makes all my designs dynamic, interesting, and somewhat different from traditional quilt patterns. Although I do make use of computer tools in the process, I start all my designs with pencil sketches in my notebook, which is a notebook of gridded graph paper. If it can be drawn on graph paper, it can easily be sewn into a quilt!
