"Rambler" was introduced in 1991. It is from the "Sports Club Collection". This is from my mother's collection which was mainly kept in a hutch. It has the original box and it is in very good condition. 1953 was a noteable year for 2 reasons. Queen Elizabeth II had her Coronation and 2 young women, Jean Walmsley Heap and Jeannie Todd set up business in a garden shed. They started making models of witches, fairies, characters of myth and legend, and as an afterthought, rabbits. The dominant Pendle Hill looms over the town of Burnely in England and is famous throughout the region for the trials of the Pendle witches over 200 years ago. The name PenDelfin is a mixture of the name of the hill and some initial ideas which didn't materialise but the PenDelfin Rabbits are now internationally famous. 20 years later, in 1973, after several locations enroute they found their new home at Cameron Mill where they are today. At this mill the rabbits jumped off their production line, all hand-painted and internationally sought after. In 1971, when Arthur Morley joined the ladies, he brought with him a new casting process in which each piece was produced under a vacuum process that prevented the formation of bubbles on the surface and ensured that each piece was of the same weight. Ms. Todd died in 1974 and Ms. Heap moved to the countryside in 1976 where she and Doreen Roberts continued designing for 14 years while Arthur ran the production facility. A fire in 1986 destroyed the designs, original models, records of sales milestones of the success of the company and although they rebuilt, some rabbits have approximate dates that are close but not exact. I have done my best to research the date of the item which is for sale.
