This book, containing many never before published documents, facts & photos, is a definitive history of the notorious Dan Morgan the bushranger, whose criminal career spanned from 1854 until his death in 1865. Of the colonial born variant of bushranger, Morgan stands out for one reason only, and that was, he murdered 3 people, 1 civilian & 2 policemen. This earns him the title of Morgan the Murderer.
This history of the bushranger is as complete as research in the archives can make it. As in the cases of Frank Gardiner, John Gilbert, Ben Hall and other colonial bandits, there will always be small gaps, such hold ups which the victims did not report because it only involved a small amount of cash, or the odd stolen horse which never made the police lists.
All the crimes committed by Morgan, and chronicled here, come from primary sources. Great care has gone into the selection of photos used in the book, and for the first time in a Morgan book the artifacts and weapons of the time are featured. This in itself makes the book unique.
Morgan was a callous brute, who is undeserving of any sympathy, and this will be clearly illustrated throughout the story. Like all criminals he took to crime of his own volition, and when released after only half a prison sentence had been served, immediately resorted back to criminal activity. He was not a victim of police or otherwise 'persecution', but like Gardiner, Gilbert, Hall and the rest of their clonies had a criminal bent, which would have resulted in him breaking the law no matter what generation or century he lived in.
