Detailed item info
Movie description
Walt Disney's second full-length animated feature is a timeless, breathtakingly beautiful classic. Based on an 1800s story by Carlo Collodi, it stars Jiminy Cricket (voiced by Cliff Edwards) as a vagabond insect who spends a rainy night at the shop of toymaker Geppetto. The Blue Fairy brings a marionette to life after Geppetto wishes on a star for a son, and Jiminy Cricket is appointed the new boy's conscience. He has a devil of a time keeping up as Pinocchio is willingly lured through various forms of temptation, the most frightening of which leads him to Pleasure Island, where he drinks, smokes, and is almost turned into a jackass. This sequence, as well as Pinocchio's brave rescue of Geppetto from the belly of a whale, ranks among the most memorable in the history of animation. With such songs as "When You Wish Upon a Star," this is about as magical as cinema can get, a sublimely beautiful coming-of-age story for all to treasure.

Here is the story on this and all of the other DVDs that I am offering for auction today. I have listed this as "Brand New", but there is a "twist" to that meaning. All of my DVDs were purchased brand new. I don't buy used movies. But it was , and still is, my policy to buy the movie and then bring it home and remove the disc from the plastic, or cardboard, package. Then I store the disc in a CD jewel box. Why? Because when I buy my DVDs I take a great deal of time to pick the best package that I can find. I look for a smooth plastic cover with no wrinkles or blisters. I check for the printed outer wrap to be centered on the plastic box. And, most important, I know that frequent opening and closing of the plastic case will cause the hinge to break. So after I store the disc in the CD case, I put the DVD case in a nice, dark, dresser drawer. These cases are nearly perfect, and as perfect as I could find when I was shopping for them.

As for the discs themselves, only two or three have been viewed. And then, only once. The discs are flawless, without any scratches or fingerprints. Just like new, but with pristine hand-selected cases.

These were bought with an eye on the future, to be used for entertainment for my grandchildren. But that hasn't come to pass, and their parents have DVD collections of their own. So it's time to move them on to someone else. Start or complete your Disney DVD collection here.
