In the early 1800s many early American clocks were built with wooden movements.There were many skilled woodworkers in that period who turned their attention to clockmaking and invented ingenious clock works.

This plan is based on an original early Americsan clock with wooden movement which is in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.This clock was dismantled and complete working drawings were made from its movement and case.

The original 30 hour movement is weight driven.You can make the weight driven movement or substitute a modern wind up m ovement or even a quartz movement if you only want to make the case.

The drawings are very complete and come with instructions for making the original weight driven wooden works.The original clock was built using only hand tools and you can do the same.A bandsaw or jigsaw will speed up the work considersbly of course.

This is a wonderful project for the person who likes to do meticulous careful work.It will take many hours to cut out and fit all the wooden parts properly.The result will however be well worth the effort.You will have made a wonderful hand made clock which will become a family heirloom.

The original 150 year old clock with its wooden works is still in running order.So if you make yours well it will last for a long time.Truly a project for the careful craftsman who has the desire to produce a top quality product that he/she can be proud of.
