Synopsis
Her life in ruins after a bad marriage, Laurel Granger goes back home to the tiny town in North Carolina she left years before. The only job she can find is at the textile mill, but the experience turns out to be better than she had anticipated, and her life, though in some ways more confined, is actually richer for her decision.

Publisher's Note
Her luminous first novel, Moon Women, won the hearts of both readers and critics, who called it “richly textured...a pleasure to be savored by a writer to watch.” (Kirkus Reviews) Now Pamela Duncan returns to the rich landscape of the human heart with a lush, resonant novel about mothers and daughters, about family and friendship, about a woman at a turning point in her life and the extraordinary world she discovers in a place called home…

Plant Life

It’s Christmastime in Russell, North Carolina. For Laurel Granger, the holiday can’t pass quickly enough. With her fifteen-year marriage ending, the visit to her hometown is bound to be even more painful than usual. And the worst part will be looking at the lives of her mother, Pansy, and Pansy’s gossipy group of friends, for whom life revolves around the plant, the aging textile mill where for decades they have found companionship, a modest livelihood, and a purpose.

But with her own marriage disintegrating--the full scope of the disaster hasn’t become clear to her yet--Laurel has nowhere else to turn except Russell, and to the women of the plant. And soon what Laurel begins to see is not the stifling town she couldn’t wait to leave, nor women whose lives seem petty and plain, but a place where powerful secrets have been kept...where hearts and lives have been broken...and where a group of extraordinary women may have a thing or two to teach her about life. Most of all, as Laurel starts to live and even love a little again, she is faced with her mother, and her mother before her, and what their complex relationship has meant for Laurel all these years.

Weaving together the voices of several remarkable women across generations, Pamela Duncan tells a story of faith and forgiveness, acts of love and acts of betrayal. With the same artful brushstrokes that made Moon Women a wonder, Duncan paints a masterful portrait of seemingly ordinary lives, and of what it means to grow a life and a future--in the rich soil of the past.

Industry reviews
"Lovingly drawn, thoughtful characterization holds up despite the endless inventory of minutiae. A worthy second outing...."

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

US BUYERS: Buyer agrees to shipping and handling of $3.89 for this book. If you are buying more than one item from me, the highest shipping and handling charge will applied to one book, then $1.89 each for additional items paid for at the same time and shipped together with the first book(except for certain heavy weight items, which may be higher).
Shipping is done on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings only. Shipping is via USPS Media Mail. Insurance is optional but recommended(Cost: $1.70 per order in most cases), as I can not responsible for uninsured parcels lost or damaged in the mail.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: I will ship worldwide, but you will need to contact me for shipping and handling charges as they are much higher than US rates. Payments must be US dollars.
Insurance is optional but I recommend it as once the post office accepts the package as evidenced by the Customs Declaration, I cannot be responsible for uninsured parcels lost or damaged in shipping. Unfortunately, the US Post Office does not offer insurance for many international shipments; thus, I can't help you on insurance at this time.
Shipping and handling charges are based on both weight and size of book, particularly the thickness. Almost all shipments to Canada and Mexico will be via First Class International Mail; almost all shipments to all other countries will be via Priority International Mail. Some estimates for shipping and handling costs on one book to Canada ($7-13 US), UK ($14-18 US), Europe ($14-24 US), Australia ($14-22 US).

AFTER THE AUCTION:

I will send you a invoice after the auction is over.
Please email me with your shipping address and payment preference.
You can either use the check out or paypal right after the auctions ends or wait until you have received a invoice from me.
If for some reason, you don't receive an invoice, please contact me.

Many of you have bids pending on other auctions of mine. if so, please wait until after the last auction to pay in order to take advantage of reduced shipping and handling charges, but do let me know which items you are bidding on so I can mark your invoice. Thank you.

SPECIAL NOTE: I do smoke. While this is not a problem for most buyers and while this is not a problem with most of my books, I have been told occasionally by buyers that their book smelled of smoke. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, you might not want to buy. With no sense of smell, I am unable to say if a book does or does not smell of smoke. As I said, this affects very few buyers and most of my books aren't affected, but I thought I would mention this. Thank you.
