Plastic
Bio-Filter Ribbon Media
We sell this Plastic
Ribbon Bio-Filter Media in 4 Types, see below.
Each bid is for 1
lb and your Choice of any of the 4 Types we have for sale, and Yes you can Mix-n-Match the 4
Types, on your order of 2 or more 1 lb. bids.
When buying 3 or
more bids, ask for a corrected shipping invoice instead of paying the shipping
cost from ebay's checkout.
We use these 4 types of
Plastic Ribbon Media for our Bio-logical filter materials in our Floating
Islands we make for personal
ponds, commercial pond
settings, buisness parks retention ponds, and anywhere else someone wants a
floating island.
Type A: This is basically a Flat Ribbon, Its approx. 3/8"
(+/- 1/16") wide. But it does have a slight curve inward along both edges.
This makes a good
structural ribbon in your filter that won't compact from the waters
pressure. We interlace this ribbon with
either of the other 3
types we sell for extra holding power for the nitrifying
bacteria
Type B: This
is basically a Flat Crinkled Ribbon, Its approx. 5/16" (+/- 1/16") wide.
But it does have a
great advantage to it since it has only one side of the ribbon as
a continous strip, the
opposite side has small cuts, that look like a
string banner. The
only drawback to this ribbon is that its reccomended that you need to
use a meshbag to hold it
together. Packing it into a filter compartment tends to break the continous
string along the one edge, into smaller segments.
Type C: This is basically a Flat Slightly Crinkled Edge
Gray Plastic Ribbon, Its approx. 5/16" (+/- 1/16")
wide. This ribbon makes a good filler material for Type A ribbon above or
for a filler material for 2.5'' or larger Plastic
Bio-Balls.
Type D: This is a Flat
Gray Plastic
Ribbon, Its approx. 1/16" (+/- 1/32") wide. This
size ribbon is good for a small filters, or as a filler material worked into the
larger ribbons for filler. This ribbon makes a good filler material for Type A ribbon above
or for a filler material for 2.5" and smaller Plastic
Bio-Balls.
We reccomend that you
clean and sterilize any ribbon filter material before placing it in you ponds
filters. First make
a hot water bath in a 5 gl bucket with a good amount of liquid dish soap, slosh
the ribbons up and down for 5 minutes, then have another bucket handy with a sterilizing
solution made up with 1 part household bleach to 10
parts of water, let the
ribbon set in this soulution for 1 hour, remove and rinse the ribbon with clean
water, Let dry in the sun
before using in your filter.
This is the same
sterilizing solutions that we use in our Commercial Plant Growing buisness
before we reuse any and all used pots and trays.
Any Questions
you have, just ask thru ebay.
How much surface
area does each of your Types of ribbon have?
I, get asked this
question a lot, and I've also read some exoribent amounts to claims of how much
surface area is there to different sizes of tapes.
Here is what you want
to do, draw a equalaterial triangle of 3/8" on each side like my Type A ribbon
above. Now draw
another equalaterial triangle of 1/16" on each side like my Type D ribbon
above. Now compare
the Type D tape triangle to the Type A triangle, how many Type D triangles can
you fit inside the
Type A triangle, Yes you are right 36.
BUT, Its
not only about surface area, its about how much bacteria you can succesfully
grow in a limited area, using the least amount of media. Type D ribbon above will grow more than Type
A, because of different factors.
If you use just Type A
media anywhere it crosses itself or touches each other surfaces, you lose
surface area. But with Type D media, being that its more thinner making for a more closer
intertwinning, the bacteria can now float free of the ribbon but is trapped
also, which now means you are gaining surface area.
Other Factors you need
to consider when figuring the surface area for bacteria to grow in a
filter.
Does your filter have a
trickle system on top for distribution of the water to be
filtered.
Does your filter have a
flow rate thru for the distribution of the water to be
filtered.
Does your filter have a
source for injecting oxygen into the filters column.
These are just a few,
there can be many more factors also to consider.
So why don't we
sell this by the 1 Cubic Foot Box
I've bought plenty of
these ribbons from different sellers over the years. I, use it for the
biological filter element in my own Floating Islands, so I need a lot of
it. But when you get the 1 Cubic Foot box, yes there is 2 lbs.
in the box, but the box could hold
an additional 1 to
2 lbs of ribbons depending on the type of ribbon if its packed
right.
FREE SHIPPING -
Why we don't do it
Free Shipping is a
gimmick that robs the buyer, thats you. Say you want 5 lbs of ribbons and
and if I offered Free S/H my costs would be $18.80 per lb. ($10.00 for the
material + $8.80 for
the shipping at todays USPS rates), 1 lb of material ships the at 2
lbs, remember you also have to pay for the weight of the box.
Now say you bought
the 5 lbs, you would pay me $94.00 total.
But since I, have
calculated shipping were you have to enter your zip-code, and the number of
bid units you want, your shipping costs for 1 lb would be from $5.65 to
$8.80 depending on what Zone you are in from me. But it doesn't stop
there, since the seller when they make up the auction, inputs that the
first pound ships for 2 lbs, which is true since you have to add the weight of
the box, it goes the 2 lb rate, now when the shipping calculator also is
inputed with a unit bid of 5, it multiplies that 2 lb's times 5
and rates it at the 10 lb rate. So now you would pay
between $10.60 to $26.60 USPS rates depending on what Zone
you are in from me, thats because the combined shipping weight of the 5 lbs
of product plus the weight of the box would ship at the 7 lb
rate.
Remember what I
stated above
When buying 3 or
more bids, ask for a corrected shipping invoice instead of paying the shipping
cost from the checkout.
The
seller is the only person that can change the
shipping costs on the Invoice, and we don't overcharge for shipping so for the
shipping costs of 5 lbs of product it would cost between $9.60 to $15.55 shipped
by FedEX Ground, depending on what Zone you are in from
me.
So that is the reason
we don't offer FREE S/H. All shipping costs are
based above are from Zone 1 ( 78059 USPS or 78228 FedEX Ground ) for the 48
Continential USA states
only. For rates
to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, or Overseas send me your
shipping address and the total amounts
that you want to
buy.
