I have some 100% pure (other than light oxidation) sodium tucked away that I am now willing to part with. the uses are diverse as it is a great reducing agent which can be used for many kinds of reactions including recovering precious metals from ore / scrap and in manufacturing biodiesel.

Sodium in its metallic form can be used to refine some reactive metals, such as zirconium and potassium, from their compounds. This alkali metal as the Na⁺ ion is vital to animal life. Other uses:

• In certain alloys to improve their structure.
• In soap, in combination with fatty acids. Sodium soaps are harder (higher melting) soaps than potassium soaps.
• To descale metal (make its surface smooth).
• To purify molten metals.
• As a heat transfer fluid in some types of nuclear reactors and inside the hollow valves of high-performance internal combustion engines.
• In organic synthesis, sodium is used as a reducing agent, for example in the Birch reduction.

Can I buy less than 1 pound?
Yes you can, however I refuse to cut corners on shipping since there could be a $100,000 fine if I did so, so don't even ask. The packages cost me around $25 per package plus the $20 hazmat fee on top of normal shipping. So figure that it is going to cost around $55 to ship the package (this is included in the listing, it is not taged on later unless you change quantity) whether it weighs 100 grams or 3 pounds, it is all about the same. I do however have great shipping arrangements for large quantities around the US.

Can you ship it internationally?
At this time I have not setup any associations with any companies that go beyond the Continental US. I will let you know when I do, feel free to send me an email so I can inform you when this changes. If you have a company that will pick it up and take responsibility for shipping it properly, I can work with that.

I saw this in chemistry where they blow some up with water but am under 18, can I still buy?
All sales MUST be to an adult. Yes this is great fun with water as it is VERY reactive, however, it is primarily being sold for use with those uses listed above. While by bidding on this you assume responsibility for using it properly, I would hate to see someone get hurt. If you are underage and want to see it, use Youtube, or Google Video, it is much safer. I do require a copy of your Photo ID and will ship to the address on the ID to make sure it isn't a stolen drivers license.
