Porky Pig original cartoon cel art - Bob Clampett 1937

Presented here is an amazing piece of history.
This is a completely original, hand inked and hand painted celluloid art created by Bob Clampett and given to Virgil Ross as a one year anniversary gift for his work at Warner Brothers cartoon studio.ot, Little Audry, Little Lotta, Herman and Catnip, Stumbo, and more!

This presentation art was given to Virgil Ross by Bob Clampett most likely in April of 1937, exactly one year after Virgil worked on his very first Porky cartoon entitled, Plane Dippy. Interestingly, it was in April of 1937 that Porky's Duck Hunt hit the silver screen.

About the condition:

Size is just under seven inches tall. Hand inked onto acetate, hand colored. Completely original condition.

Bob Clampett joined Warner Brothers in 1931 and went on to become a lead animator rather quickly under the direction of Friz Freleng. In 1935 he created the first of many cartoon stars, Porky Pig. Porky was an adult pig with a deep stuttering voice in the beginning but later was molded into the smaller and higher voiced star we all can relate to. This began to happen in 1936, when Clampett was under Tex Avery's direction for a few months. With the addition of Virgil Ross to the crew, a new character was designed to compliment Porky senior, a son called Porky Junior (animated by Virgil Ross). Porky Junior was a favorite with the kids and ultimately became the character of today.

By 1937 the metamorphosis was complete with the addition of Mel Blanc as the voice for the shorter, younger and higher voiced stuttering pig. The cartoon was Porky's Duck Hunt and it was a classic, as it also introduced Porky's second half and permanent foil, Daffy Duck.
