COMPOSITION & CONSTRUCTION

Head is stamped 18/8 stainless steel; handle is porcelain with Rudolph decal.

To understand the composition of stainless steel, it is necessary to know the percentages of chromium and nickel. In this case, 18/8 denotes the presence of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Chromium gives a product its strength and makes it resistant to rust; the higher the chromium percentage, the more durable a product. A chromium level of 18% is standard in flatware. Nickel adds luster to metal. The strength, durability and enhanced luster of 18/8 stainless-steel makes it one of the best on the market today.

Because the Chinese were the first to produce porcelain, this type of dinnerware is often referred to as "china." A combination of fine clay and quartz is fired at the extremely high temperature of 2,400 degrees Fahrenheit and fuses to become a highly translucent and chip-resistant product that is perfect for formal and casual dining.
