Q: What about your competitors?
A: Be careful comparing wind turbines on eBay. Most of our competitors rate their machines based on average wind speeds of over 25-30mph! That is not what you will most likely find in your area. Many regions have average wind speeds of just over 10mph. Our competitors produce much less power when you compare rated wind speeds. Look at their charts and see for yourself. You get much more for your money with the PowerMax products!
Q: Are the systems on the market really generating the power they claim?
The wind power generated by a system is to the power of 3 of the blade size. The current systems we see have very small blade size which at most can generate 200W or even lower around 18mph range. Considering the wind speed in most locations is much lower than the rated wind speed, you may only get about 100W, so many of these systems are really just a toy, not a wind power system.
Q: How the blade size is related to the wind power?
This is very good question and the answer to it will help you to screen out the untrustworthy vendors. We have known the wind power is to the power of 3 of the blade size. Unlike power curve which can be easily compromised by the unfaithful dealer but difficult to be verified by the normal users, the blade size is very easy to measure and verify. The following is a reference between the wind power and the blade size for the wind speed of 18mph.
- 500 W, the blade diameter needs to be 8.2 feet or up.
- 1000 W, the blade diameter needs to be 8.9 feet or up.
- 2000 W, the blade diameter needs to be 10.5 feet or up
So for a wind turbine system with a diameter of 4.6 feet, you can only get about 200W of wind power at 18mph. But since most areas have a wind speed slower than 11 mph, you might only get 100W or even lower. So how this kind of system is useful to you? How can a dealer claim it as "500W Wind Generator System" and say they are trustworthy?
But you may argue that you have high wind speed like 28 mph. You need to be even more careful since that small system may not be able to handle that kind of power at all. The system either stops before reaching that speed or may burn itself up after continuous running for hours at that speed.
Q: How to decide if a system good for me or not?
There are several factors to consider in choosing a right wind system. The first thing is to find out the average wind speed in your area. If your wind speed is lower than 4 meters per second (8.9 mph), there is no need to look further since there is no system so far that can generate a fair amount of power at that wind speed. But if your wind speed is over 4 meters per second, you still need to ask a copy of the power curve of the system from the vendor. The power curve shows how much power the system will generate at various wind speeds. So based on the average wind speed in your area, you will be able to know how much power the system will generate. There are many systems or companies on the market that do not provide the power curves or their nominal wind speeds which cause confusion in the small wind market. Don't be fooled by the rated power provided by vendors but be sure to ask the rated wind speed for that power.
Q: Is braking system for speed control more reliable than the tail furling?
The most reliable and cost effective speed control system for small wind is still tail furling since there is no electronic system involved in the controlling mechanism. The braking system normally is used for 3KW system or above. Using brake to control the systems under 3KW is rarely seen on the market since it's not cost effective. On the other hand, if a small system uses the braking system and selling price is low, you should have something to worry about since there is no justification between the low cost and high reliability for this complex braking system. The simpler the better is always right in designing products. So it is with wind systems.
Q: Why are the PowerMax products right for me?
The PowerMax wind generators are proven to work great for years. The system design is very effective. The systems have been installed in Europe & China for years. They have been in the North American market for over a year now with tremendous results.
