This is one of those item in rough condition but complete that would have to be taken "as found", because the book is so rare. This is, "The Practical Cookbook" by Mrs. Sylvia Cambell", published in Cincinnati, Longley Publishers, Vine St, 1855. Upfront as I said it is in rough condition, the Covers are stained, there are paste in recipes in the front. The book is separating from the spine, there are pencil underlining and quite a bit of wear, soiling and staining. so needless to say this book is being sold in "as found" condition. Please keep that in mind when bidding and I feel I have been very upfront about the condition. The scans should also be helpful to the viewer in determining what they they think about this item in general, plus the condition. In its favor of this Cook Book, I can say that it appears to be complete, it is generally "together". The "trade" often calls this type of item a "reading copy". It is is original, rather old, and I did not see any other examples of this book being offered for sale and the few I saw mentioned in research are sequestered in rare library collections. This book is 113 numbered pages including ads and then 4 pages of additional publications by the publishing company. The book itself measures approx. 4.75"x 7". The other aspect about Mrs Cambells book I like is that many of the dishes and recipes seemed like they would taste good to todays eating tastes. I know that years ago people did what they had to survive, or there were and are cultural delicacies, but she doesn't have a lot "innards" recipes, or recipes that we would unlikely make today. In the rough condition described, I consider this a museum status cookbook as it is so rare . Chances are that if you would like a vintage example of this cookbook amytime soon, you will likely need to get it here. I am pleased to offer this rare and historic old Cook Book for consideration. Check out my other items! I tend to like the old, unusual, scarce and possibly unique items. If this is your interest also, then check out my other listings. I do combine your winning auctions to save you money on shipping costs. Let me know if you want insurance. I do give "frequent flyers" breaks. I DO NOT sell to Poland or Spain.
