Queen Anne George I Design Writing Table Desk Bureau

Description:
This is a very nice quality Queen Anne / George I inspired figured and burr walnut bureau / writing table / desk.  The bureau stands on cabriole legs with pad feet, having a lovely shaped apron in figured walnut.  Three drawers rise over with burr walnut veneers and cross-banded herringbone decoration, cross-banded in walnut with a moulded edge with lovely 17th Century design handles with engraved back-plates and engraved escutcheons.  Rising over is the burr walnut and cross-banded herringbone inlaid fall front with matched herringbone and cross-banded walnut veneers to the top.  The bureau has two pull-out loppers which support the fall front.  Upon opening reveals a stepped interior fitted with four drawers, a single door with its original lock and key, with an ivorine escutcheon and ivorine turned knobs with an oak main carcassing to the interior with green baize fitted to the reverse side of the fall front.  The bureau retains its original backboards.  The drawers have solid oak linings with solid oak drawer bottoms.  The bureau also comes complete with a working key to the fall front.  A lovely and attractive bureau of petite proportions.

The bureau dates circa 1920.

Condition:
The bureau is in good condition, with one or two minor distress marks to leading edges, which are consistent with age and use.  The bureau does show some signs of restoration to the finish, but does have good colour and patination.
