This quilt is a design known as "hanafubuki" which means "flower storm" or "rain of blossoms". This is what is experienced by standing under a cherry blossom tree in Kyoto when the strong spring breezes are blowing.
There are three large panels of fabric which comprise the central diagonal of the quilt. This fabric, shown in detail in the second picture, is a vintage yukata fabric. Yukata is the cotton fabric used to make summer kimono. There are also blue and black colorways of this same vintage yukata in the quilt. They all feature pink and blue cherry blossoms.
The rest of the fabrics in the quilt, many featuring cherry blossoms or other traditional japanese florals as well as highlights of gold, are commercial asian oriental japanese fabrics. The striking sawtooth border is formed by setting the golden and colorful fabrics against a stark gold on white fabric.
The quilt is extensively free-motion quilted is a curl pattern with various rayon and gold metallic threads.
The materials, time and workmanship in this quilt would place it's value in the $1000 range. The quilting alone is worth over $300.
All quilts are from a smoke-free and pet-free home.
