SIGNED BY AUTHOR AND ARTIST- 1ST ED.

 RABBIT PLANTS THE FOREST

Story by Deborah L. Duvall, Art by Murv Jacob

Filled with gorgeous full color paintings by Jacob

32 page--- hardcover, clothbound, beautiful dust jacket, first edition, signed by both the author and the artist, an art book disguised as a children's book, very collectible.  Includes an index of plants and birds shown.

Reading level grades 2-6, great for precocious 1st graders   These are among the greenest books ever published.  If you care about the earth and keeping it alive, you'll find this volume of great interest---perfect for parents, teachers.and  especially storylellers .   These stories take place in an indigenous  forest world that stretches from coast to coast on the American continent, before the machine age changed the land forever.

Synopsis:  Rabbit, whose Cherokee name is Ji-Stu, is delighted when he receives an unexpected invitation from Sa-lo-li the Squirrel to help her plant the forest with hickory nuts, pecans, acorns, and walnuts.  Sa-lo-li, who always kept her planting methods to herself until today, shows Ji-Stu her secret way to make sure the seeds sprout and how to find them again, even in the deepest snow.  Yes, Ji-Stu is having one of the best days of his life!  He can hardly wait to brag about it to all his neighbors.  No one else has ever helped Sa-lo-li on planting day!  Sa-lo-li and Ji-Stu move toward the river as they work, to find a good planting place for Ji-Stu's favorite walnuts.  Along the way, they meet a tiny little old squirrel named White Oak who calls them to his side.  Old White Oak has a warning for Ji-Stu and Sa-lo-li.  "Watch out for the Wampus Cat!"  But Ji-Stu and Sa-lo-li know that the Wampus Cat is just and old story.  Or is it?

In 2005, an entire seven-book series, also by Jacob and Duvall, entitled "The Grandmother Stories," was the first and only series of books to receive the Oklahoma Book Award.
