DESCRIPTION

This is a no reserve, SEVEN-DAY AUCTION for a very nice RAF 41 SQN OPERATION TELIC SEPECAT JAGUAR EMBROIDERED PATCH: 3.5" (W) X 4" (H). New, still sealed in its poly bag, (10/10).

41 Squadron was formed in July 1916. Two months after their initiation they were deployed to France. After taking part in the First World War they disbanded in late 1919. They reformed on the 1 April 1923. They saw action in the Abysinnian crisis of 1935-36. After that they were equipped with Spitfires to last them the war. They took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 and the Battle of Britain. At the end of the war the squadron was sent to Germany as part of the occupying force.
In 1947 the squadron was temporarily converted to an instrument training squadron, they received De Havilland Hornet upon reverting back to fighter defence. The squadron received their first jet aircraft in 1951 when they took delivery of Gloster Meteors. These aircraft however only lasted 4 years until the squadron received Hunters. They again changed aircraft in 1958 for Gloster Javelins. They remained flying this type until their disbandment in 1963. In September of 1965 the squadron reformed as a Surface-to-air-missile (SAM) squadron until September 1970 where they again disbanded. In 1972 they reformed at RAF Conningsby with F-4 Phantoms. In 1977 the squadron received the SEPECAT Jaguar operating in the tactical reconnaissance role. The squadron was involved in both Gulf Wars Operation Grandby and Operation Telic and the Balkans conflict prior to 2006. At that time, the Jaguar squadron was disbanded and the squadron numberplate transferred to the Fast Jet and Weapons Operational Evaluation Unit at RAF Coningsby.
