YOU ARE BIDDING ON A NEW 80 MINUTE AUDIO CD PROGRAM AS DESCRIBED BELOW: BEST OF CD PREVIEWS CD PR-197 This is a Special Edition full 80 minute audio CD of railroad sounds taken in real time during the 1960's and through the early 1990's. These rare sounds were captured using portable GE stereo recording equipment. The sequences (tracks) on this CD were taken from a collection of over 1000 hours of preserved and cataloged audio from this era. This particular CD “THE BEST OF CD PREVIEWS” has been produced especially to provide a sampling, typical of the type and quality of sound that can be found on all of our audio CD Programs. There seems to have been some reluctance on the part of a few potential customers to “take a chance” on what they fear could be an unedited, “homemade” railroad sound CD.. We are offering this Preview CD to dispel such fears, and to offer a sampling of something for every taste. Steam, diesel, electric, cab rides, runbys, idling, etc. All 18 sound tracks selected for this CD are complete unedited tracks taken directly from our catalog of CD Programs. The tracks are described below: Track 1: Utica, NY. We hear a NYC U25B as she pulls out of the yard with a local freight headed up the Adirondack Division to Lowville. 4.14 Track 2: Utica, NY. We listen as the NYC’s westbound New England States Express slips into town for her timetable 10:28pm stop. Listen as the three E ‘s (E8A, E7B, E7A) idle at a low rumble. Then with a blast of the horn they roar out of town. This is a great track of accelerating EMD E Units. 5.13 Track 3 Sayre, PA, Lehigh Valley shops, we listen as Baldwin AS16 #200 (the only one on the roster) is started up after maintenance and idles. This is rare Baldwin sound. 2.09 Track 4 Utica, NY Adirondack Railway, 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid. Listen as the Adirondack Railway RS3 runs around her train, idles, pumps up the air and leaves. The RS3 is leased D&H #4075. This has great close up idle of an Alco 244 prime mover. 9.31 Track 5. We are at Oneonta, NY in 1979 and we are listening to D&H Alco RS36 #5022 as she switches the North end of the Yard, near FA (Fonda Ave) Tower. Great Alco 251 sound! 3.25 Track 6 We are in Binghamton, NY in the late 1950’s just prior to the Erie-Lackawanna merger and we hear the Erie Limited swoop into town with three green over green E8s.. all A Units. (Erie had no E8 B units). After a minute or so she slips quietly out of town. 2.08 Track 7 We are in the mountains of Virginia and we hear a long Norfolk and Western Coal drag. This train is climbing uphill with an A class and a Y6b on the front and another Y6b shoving at the rear. Listen as the famous “Hooter” whistles echo off the hillsides. 4.25 Track 8 We are at Tyrone, PA and we hear as a short freight heads up the Branch. There is one of the Pennsylvania Railroad’s many I1s decapods on the point and another shoving at the rear. 2.39 Track 9 Back to the Virginia mountains where we hear another N&W coal drag. Once again with an “A” and “Y6b” on the point but this time with the one of a kind “Jawn Henry” steam turbine shoving at the rear. Rare stuff!! 2.31 Track 10. Williamsport, MD on the Western Maryland, we hear as a B&O freight starts on the grade headed for Hagerstown. This train has an ABBA set of F7s on the point and two F7a’s and a GP9 shoving hard at the rear. Taken on a clear night .. wonderful EMD “567” sound. 4.05 Track 11 We are in Binghamton, NY. The Canadian Pacific has taken over the D&H and we hear as three big Montreal Alcos (C630,C636,C630) get a train started Northbound out of Bevier St yard. Wonderful modern big Alco sound. 3.05 Track 12 Utica, NY 1950s and we hear a NYC K-11 Pacific as she starts a passenger train and leaves for a northward trek to Lake Placid on the Adirondack Division of the New York Central. 1.33 Track 13 Utica,NY 1950s… We listen as a NYC 4-6-4 “Hudson” starts a mail and express train westbound. Listen as the train rolls through a set of crossovers. The once mighty Hudson has been demoted by diesels to pulling mail and express, no more varnish. 1.32 Track 14 This is a long but unusual sequence. We listen as a PC westbound freight pulls into Utica with an ex NYC GP40/U30B power set. The stop, cut the train, drop some cars, pump up and charge out of town. This is the best acceleration sequence we have ever taped. Don’t miss it. 13.26 Track 15 PRR’s line from Elmira to Sodus Point and the ore docks. We hear as an I1s decapod struggles with an ore drag until she stalls. Great banshee whistle, typical of the Pennsy Decs. 2.54 Track 16. We are onboard a PRR GG1 in the cab as she heads north on the Northeast Corridor with a passenger train. Listen to the whine of the big Westinghouse traction motors as she reaches trackspeed of 90 miles per hour. You can hear the “thumps” of the relays kicking in or out in response to the engineer’s throttle settings. This is very rare and exciting stuff!! 11.07 Track 17 A fantrip on the Southern Railway in the 1970s. We have a long passenger train (the fantrip) with FP7s in charge, meeting a freight with various power. What we hear is a lot of amazing air horn talk. There is some people chatter but the horn play is not to be missed. 3.48 Track 18 In the 1970s EMD built a couple of experimental electric locomotives to see if they could entice the PRR/PC away from GE (GG1, E44, E33. etc) with no luck. One of the two #1975 I believe a model designation GM6 is heard here latching onto a coal train and leaving town. Very rare, 2.03 The sequences on this Preview CD were chosen to illustrate the variety, depth and breadth of this quality audio library. If you are an aficionado of real good sound carefully captured on good equipment by a railfan, especially for railfans, look no further. Give us a try you won’t be sorry |
