This one-of-a-kind chemist's personal recipe book
~ hand written in beautiful script ~ dates to the mid 19th century
and features over 400 individual recipes on 119 pages, fully indexed.

Chemists of this era required recipes for mixing drugs and related preparations for both humans and animals. Additionally, they were the makers and suppliers of many common consumables such as ink, metal polish, ginger beer, dentrifice (tooth powder), perfumes, leather polish and others, all of which you will find in this fabulous record.

It is interesting to note that there are even recipes for colored water used in show globes, bronze for gun barrels and recipes for two popular medical formulas, Daffy's Elixir and Dalby's Carminative, which were early forerunners to, and eventually became, patent medicines.

The original copy of this fascinating book ~ of which only one is known to exist ~ was purchased by a private collector for over $500. The only way to obtain a copy of this unique historical pharmacy record is to buy the exact replica on CD-Rom offered in this auction.
