VERY RARE!!! This is a First Edition (not the later reprint) of Clement Moore's ~ THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS ~ Printed in 1883 (125 years old!) and published by Porter & Coates from Philadelphia. There were 2 hardcover editions, one with a silver cover, one with a gold cover, this is the silver cover. Illustrated with 20 black and white engravings, by the 4 artists, which were drawn and engraved under the supervision of James W. Lauderbach, and illustrated by William Smedley, Frederic Schell, Alfred Fredericks and Henry Poore. Book is complete and in very good condition! Paper pages are all gilt edged and pages are on fine, sturdy plate paper, a thicker, shiny paper. There is one page of advertisements in the back, "The Bells Series". There is some cover wear, with light soiling on front and back cover and bottom right corner bumped. The spine is plain white, and present. Front hinge split in the front, not affecting the tightness of the binding. No writing. Tight binding. No rips or tears. The first 3 pages have pencilpoint (miniscule) holes on the edge. A very lovely, wonderful and rare addition for the Night Before Christmas Collector!!!
