This is a superb, original and authentic Arnott's biscuit tin, from the 1920s. It features a lithograph on the lid, of a beautiful, glamorous blonde lady, sitting in a sports car, with one hand on the wheel, the other, clutching the tyre mounted on the back of the car. Although some of the colour has faded from the image, it is still remarkably clear, and vivid in its detail. Her hair is typical of the 1920s/'30s Art Deco period styling, and the close-up detail of the car, and in particular, the tyres, is superb. The border around the lithographic image on the lid, also has some beautiful Art Deco designs, with gold decorative ornamental designs over the dark brown frame. The sides of the tin, feature a lattice-work of diamond shapes, outlined in gold, with varying thicknesses, against a background of vivid bright red, all bound within rectangular panels.
The lid is attached by two hinges at the back, and there is an original metal clasp at the front, which has been stamped: "British Made Patent No. 165333". The base of the tin has the original Arnott's stamp:

The condition of this tin is very good, as you can see for yourself, from the photos. Being nearly 100 years old, there is wear & scratches, and there are some light specks of rust - mainly on the clasp, and on some of the edges. Also, as I have said, the lithographic image on the lid, has faded somewhat, and has undergone some wear in places, but most of the detail and colour is still there.
This is a wonderful piece of early 20th Century, Australian history, and is an exquisite example of Australian lithographic art, advertising/packaging and design, from the Art Deco period. These early tins a very collectable, and can realise very high prices, so they represent an excellent form of investment. You may not get another opportunity, to find one of these, in such great condition - so act now, before it is too late!
