RARE 1930s Dresden Plate Quilt Block Kits - Red-E-Kut
Here's a neat find for the quilt collector or historian . . . four unused packages of "Red-E-Kut" quilt patches to make Dresden Plate blocks! Kits like this became popular in the 1920s and flourished in the 1930s and 1940s when nearly every woman's magazine contained ads from companies like Red-E-Kut for kits for blocks or complete quilts.
Also included in the auction is one finished Dresden Plate, a partially sewn one, and about 40 additional blades for more blocks. The stitching was all done by hand, very neatly, and everything is in excellent condition, no staining, signs of use, or odors. (There is some tearing on some of the packets of wax paper that hold the cut blades.)
I found it interesting that each packet is numbered, suggesting that you could buy enough packets to make an entire quilt with each combination of fabrics a little different. Each block has 19 blades, and there don't seem to be any repeated fabrics within each block.
Check my other listings for seven additional sewn Dresden Plates made from these packets as well!
I don't suggest sewing these kits together since they will much more valuable in the future if they are saved as is. It is rare to find the unused packets like these.
