This listing is for a rarely seen BATTERY OPERATED ROCKING SANTA w/box as shown. It is NOT in working condition. When batteries are inserted and switch is activated no movement is noted. The toy is in average/good condition. Tin litho is nice. Clothing is in good condition with the exception of some yellowing of the white trim. Beard is clean and white. Plastic and foil parts are nice and undamaged. No missing parts. The Christmas tree unscrews from the base. It has 7 small screw in bulbs. I tested the bulbs and found that 6 out of the 7 lit up. Each tree limb also has a loop for easy hanging of small ornaments if so desired. The base is in good condition, although, 2 of the metal tabs are broken off. Battery box and cover are in very good condition. No corrosion anywhere. The toy is approx. 18 inches tall. The correct 4 actions of this toy when working correctly would be as follows: (1) Christmas Tree lights up, (2) Santa rocks back and forth in his chair, (3) Right arm rings the bell, (4) Left arm swings his gold foil package back and forth. This is a "MADE IN JAPAN" toy listed in Don Hultzman's book, COLLECTOR'S GUIDE TO BATTERY TOYS, copyright 2002, second edition. It is listed on page 149. It is a 1950's era toy made by the ALPS Co. It has a rarity of 8 on a scale to 10 being the rarest, and a value of $700.00 in C-10 condition without the box. The box is complete with the exception of a small piece missing on the corner which can be seen in photo. It does have clear tape repairs on the inside of the box. Nice graphics, great for display. Would make a nice addition to anyone's Christmas or Santa themed collection. Well worth sending to the toy doctor or just to show in your collection. Other 50's & 60's toys listed in auction & my EBAY store.
