RARE ANTIQUE MICRO MOSAIC PATCH BOX, PLINY DOVES CASKET
A most charming little patch box or small jewelry casket, ring case, which would have thrilled some 1840-60 Grand Tour traveler immensely - just as it does me in 2008. The micromosaic up top is a standard souvenir scene of Rome, the Pliny Doves, and is beautifully accomplished here in the tiniest of glass tesserae. Perfectly preserved, there are no chips or hairlines or cracks to diminish either the value or appeal of this mosaic, or of the little box to which it has been mounted. A wonderful size and rare among boxes - we've never seen another like it in many years of collecting, buying and selling fine micromosaics. Wonderful either grouped with your jewelry items or with larger micromosaic plaque boxes, as you can see.
Very good to excellent condition. Italy's best loved souvenirs of the Grand Tour era, aptly presented here in fine condition. No chips or cracks in basin or tesserae, and the most charming little box to present it. For the truly creative guy - put her engagement ring inside along with this little souvenir, take her to Rome to propose. . . we guarantee she'll fall in love and be utterly unable to say no.
