You are bidding on a pair of antique glass prism tiles, produced @100 years ago. These tiles were used to "amplify" light via leaded transoms in storefronts and commercial spaces. The advent of electricity reduced the need for these, and many were removed/desroyed or just covered-up.If you live in an old, small town, take a peek along main st. and you may see some still in use.The gold/amber tile pictured is rarely seen(I've seen 1 on ebay over the past 6 years)and a must for all collectors. The amethyst tile is much more common and started it's life clear-it turned color from decades of sun exposure combined with maganese in the glass. The amber tile is crystal-clear ,probably since it was covered-up soon after it was installed. It glows as if lit from within. The amethyst tile is equally beautiful.Note the dewdrops in the gold are larger than the amethyst. The Gold is marked in raised letters"OB",which I believe stand for Luxfer's designer Olin Basquin. The amethyst is marked with an "X"(Luxfer). Please add to/correct me on these markings. Both tiles are in exceptional condition, with maybe a tiny flake or two on the outer rim-almost a given for any tile set in caning 100 years ago.The winning bidder will receive a B.I.N. offer on another gold tile at $39.Thanks!
